Come here often?

come-here-often

The romantic part of this drawing is as much about the individual as it is about a chance meeting between two people. Life is short. You come here once. You get one chance. If you’re lucky, it lasts many years, but it’s still just one chance. Here you are. There you go. Go!

What I realized after my once-in-a-lifetime (hopefully) encounter with speeding pavement is this: I am going to be alive when I die. The moment I die, I’ll be dead, of course, but the moment right before that: I’ll be alive. I’ll be riding a scooter, or surfing, or brushing my teeth. I’ll be doing something. And then I won’t.

That’s how it works.

So make sure you’re doing the stuff you want to do.

This is your chance. This is your once-in-the-history-of-the-universe chance.

Take it.

Home Is Where the Brave Are

President Obama asked me to draw something to celebrate the 4th of July and this is what I came up with. Okay, no, he didn’t, but luck favors the prepared, right?

Happy 4th of July! May your day be filled with cold drinks, hot barbecue, independence, leisure, and gratitude.
